Pre and Post-Surgery Information

Pre-Surgical Information
Before surgery it is important to fast your pet. If your pet is going under anesthesia it is important to make sure that their stomach is empty at the time of surgery to decrease any anesthetic risk . Please withhold food and water at midnight prior to the morning of your pets surgery. Snacks and treats do count as food, please refrain from any food prior to surgery.

If you are bringing your pet in for a scheduled blood draw for please make sure to ask your doctor if a fasting time is necessary before the test. This will ensue that we get correct blood results.

Post- Surgical Information

After your pet’s surgery they may be groggy and disoriented from the anesthesia and drugs that were used for the procedure. Please keep your pet quiet and comfortable to ensure a speedy recovery. We can provide you with an e-collar to keep your pet from licking the incision site. If your pet removes its sutures you will be charged for us to re-suture the incision site. Licking an incision site can cause infection and decreased healing time. An e-collar will prevent this from happening as well as the added risk of having your pet chew its sutures out.

An incision site should be kept clean and dry. No baths or swimming until the sutures come out! Please keep a close eye on the incision site and call us if you notice any changes like swelling or discharge.

Please make sure to return for suture removal based on the doctor’s recommendation.

Bandages: If we placed a bandage on your pet after surgery it is important that you keep the bandage clean and dry. If at any point the bandage falls off, becomes wet or dirty feel free to call us and scheduled a re-bandage.

Medications: If we send medications home with you it is very important that you follow them as directed. If at any point you are concerned on how the drug is effecting your pet or if you have any questions concerning the prescription and its instructions please contact us.
